Add Comment To: John, Dan and I jumping in off the bowHere, Dan, John and I were jumping in off the bow of the boat to cool off. It may sound funny, but the bow is several feet above the waters surface. The water felt soo good!

Add Comment To: Watching the clouds come in while getting back to MontroseWe were motoring back to Montrose harbor with quite a menacing cloud hovering above.

Add Comment To: Cruising back towards Montrose harborCruising back to montrose harbor for the fireworks show.

Add Comment To: Cruising at Dusk towards Montrose Harbor for the Fireworks.Cruising at dusk to Montrose harbor to catch the start of the Fireworks show.

Description:

Add Comment To: Watching the private fireworks show going on in Belmont HarborWatching the show in belmont harbor that was being put on by the residents or possibly people in the park. It looked like it could have been the actual show but was in the wrong place.

Description:

Add Comment To: Watching the Montrose Fireworks from south of the pointWe were sitting south of the Montrose Harbor point watching the fireworks show.

Description:

Add Comment To: Fireworks show from south of Montrose HarborThe Montrose Harbor Fireworks show just after it began.

Description:

Add Comment To: Moving into Montrose for a closer lookWe had been south of the Montrose Harbor Point watching the fireworks but the boat was rocking and I wanted to get a closer look at them from in the harbor. So we moved into the harbor to get a closer look! Plus we got to see the finale up close!

Add Comment To: The last bit of the 2010 Montrose Harbor Fireworks ShowThis was the end of the Chicago 4th of July Fireworks show at Montrose Harbor. It was a decent show that was exactly 15 minutes as planned.

Add Comment To: Heading south back to our marinaHeading back south towards our marina on the Calumet Saginaw River. That's what I'm liking about being on the river. We get the best of both worlds... A cheap slip, a boat ride before and after each weekend on the boat, and we get to harbor hop with the money we saved on the boat slip!

Description:

Add Comment To: Trying to hold the camera steady while cruisingJust trying to capture the whole scene as we raced back to our marina on the river. I think I need to find a camera that will pick up the night light better. This one just shows everthing as black unless it's got it's own light source like on the radar screen.

Description:

Add Comment To: My clear modem kicking but on the water! We were traveling about 30 mph out on the lake about 2 miles off the shores of Lake Michigan and had my laptop running a slideshow which we started while in Montrose Harbor. You can see the green light right at the end of the video just as my screen saver shut off the backlight for the screen. But really, the Clear USB modem was working not only 2 miles offshore, but while we were doing about 30 mph! Not Bad! From here, hopefully their coverage will get better. Further south it had cut out again, but reconnected by the time we got back to our marina.

Add Comment To: Just showing all the tech devices on the dashJust showing all the technology that I've got pieced together to make it safe to travel at night at speed.

Description:

Add Comment To: Looking at the onshore lightsLooking out at the onshore lights and also of our wake, and the light I fixed the light but I got the number of degrees wrong. I think a sternlight has an arc of visibility of 225 degrees on the mast head.

Description:

Add Comment To: Good old 12 year old technologyGood old 12 year old raymarine radar. It'd be nice to have the current stuff in color with the chartplotter overview but this works fine for me!

Description:

Add Comment To: I love you Lake Michigan... Till next time!I love you lake michigan! We had just come down off plane and about to enter the river from the lake.

Description:

Add Comment To: Just about to enter the Calumet Saginaw RiverJust about to enter the Calumet Saginaw River channel to head back to the marina. Great end to a great weekend!

Description:

Add Comment To: Checking out the river lights...Checking out the Chicago / Skyway bridge.

Description:

Add Comment To: Calumet Saginaw River at nightChecking out the calumet saginaw river at night. Showing off how pretty it was. This video doesn't do it justice! You've got to do it for yourself sometime. No matter what you think of the river.

Description:

Add Comment To: Looking back at the Skyway bridge from the riverJust taking a quick look around the boat and at the Skyway bridge from the river below.

Description:

Add Comment To: Making a connection about career change...I was talking with my buddy about him trying to decide about a career change or going back to school, or rather staying in school. He's in a photography college in San Francisco I think. But I think he had a good idea...

Add Comment To: We almost HIT the Google Earth Boat! Here what you are looking at is my phone sitting on my dash upside down so that we could see where we were in the channel using the GPS built into the phone in conjunction with the google maps / google earth program in the phone. I have to say, I'm VERY impressed with how well this system works! Since google has all the arial photos and that the tmobile htc hd2 phone has the GPS, it's even more accurate than my Garmin color GPS. However, I don't have a chartplotter/gps, I only have a small handheld marine version. The thing that's good about it is that it shows time to distance, speed, compass, etc... So the Garmin still has many good uses. Now, I'm just waiting for the boys at google to extend the functionality of their google maps application to do more of the GPS functionality that My garmin has...

Add Comment To: Surveying the Lights on the Calumet Saginaw RiverThis leg of the trip is lined with tons of industry on the river. In the daytime, it's just a bunch of businesses, at night, it's really actually quite pretty with all the lights. Plus it makes the boat look pretty cool also. All the reflections, and a great way to "cool down" at the end of a great day!

Add Comment To: Boating with the Greatfull DeadHere I think we were just motoring back to the Marina on the Calumet / Saginaw River. The Greatfull Dead was playing on the radio and I guess I was looking around the boat.
