Grand Haven Coast Guard Fest 2006

Add Comment To: 5:13 Am July 30 Going to Grand HavenHere I was pulling out of the fairway and therefore the marina on my way to Grand Haven Michigan for a week of fun in the sun. I drove the boat, my wife met me there with the car and kids all while pulling the jet skis behind the truck. This was the day a major storm went over the lake around 8:00 am to 10 or 11:00 am in the morning. I heard there were several capsized boats in Chicago as a result of the storm.

Add Comment To: 5:45 Am July 30 Going to Grand HavenHere as you can see the sun still hasn't really come up because of how dark it still is. The windshields still have a good amount of dew on them and it's easy to see the lights in the dashboard guages.

Add Comment To: 2006 Early morning crossing to Grand HavenLook at that wake, You can tell I'm moving along pretty darn good. This was my 96 Bayliner 2855 cruising an easy 35 mph which got about 1.7 mpg.

Add Comment To: 2006 Early morning crossing to Grand Haven 1st SunriseHere the sun was just coming up. With the naked eye, it looked just huge! Look at how little to how much of the whole sun you can see in this short video... Isn't this a wonderful world!

Add Comment To: 2006 Early morning crossing to Grand Haven 2nd SunriseThis was like a second sunrise because it was just beginning to peek above the clouds.

Add Comment To: 2006 Early morning crossing to Grand Haven 3rd SunriseThe sun was just starting to peek above the clouds making it look like another sunrise. This one because of the clouds was almost better than it popping above the horizon.

Add Comment To: Summer trip to Grand Haven crossing lake michiganI had to stop the boat to download all the video from my trip up to this point onto the laptop. It's still a beautiful trip... At this time my sd cards would only hold 1gb of files from the trip.

Add Comment To: Coast Guard Fest Trip 2006 Lake CrossingThis is a video of me driving my 1996 Bayliner 2855 st with the 454 big block and 330 hp and Bravo III outdrive kicking big ass across the big bad lake at about 6:00 am on July 30th 2006. Just take a look at my wake. I'm cruising at a speed of about 37 mph which is hauling ass for a boat of this size!

Add Comment To: Summer trip to Grand HavenHere I'm finally getting into the Grand River in Grand Haven Michigan. I felt like a total idiot. I had gone about 45 minutes to an hour north of where I was supposed to go. Before I left, I had no waypoints on my gps of where I was to end up. So when I left Kenosha, I looked at my sheet of gps waypoints down below and tried to remember the coordinates. So at about 2 hours and 15 minutes, I stopped because I still couldn't see land and checked it again. I was supposed to go to 86 degrees 15 min 22.03 seconds longitude and 43 degrees 03 minutes 26.58 seconds Latitude. I went to 43 deg 15 min 22 sec north and 86 deg 03 min 26 sec west. So that put me about 20 miles north west of the harbor entrance. And as you can see from the tone of the weather, it was starting to cloud up and get nasty looking. As I said in another video post, this was the day that several boaters on the Big Bad Lake Michigan lost their boats.

Add Comment To: American Beauty Moment...Here I was having one of those "American Beauty" moments like that kid in the movie with the plastic bags. I was sitting in my boat on the seawall in Grand Haven watching the boat rise and fall next to the seawall and just thinking about how beautiful it was. While it only lasted a several seconds, I still feel the same when I watch it.

Add Comment To: Grand Haven Seawall ViewsHere is the scene from the Grand River Seawall in Grand Haven Michigan. This was the day that they did the Coast Guard Rescue diver demonstration. Or rather I think they had just finished it.

Add Comment To: Grand Haven Coast Guard Fest Fireworks ShowThis is the fireworks show as seen from the river just a couple hundred feet from where they are set off on on the Grand River. We were sitting on the lake side of the split groups of boats. They never let you sit right in front of the fireworks because of the possibility of boats catching fire.
